here in Crossville, TN. It is a very nice campground with campsites arranged around the lake. It is an adult oriented campground that is quiet and well kept. You can see our white fifth wheel with the bay window on the back across the lake in the picture above. The sites by the lake have a patio with swing, patio table with chairs and a barbeque pit. We came to Crossville to see the famous Cumberland Geneal Store. When we got here we discovered that the store closed down a few years ago. The manager at the campground told us that we could find similar old timey things at a Minnenite community called Muddy Pond that is about fifteen miles northeast of town.It was well worth the trip to visit Muddy Pond. It was a beautiful day with temperatures in the 70's and a great day for a drive in the country. As you drive down the narrow, winding country road you come upon small stores and even some houses with signs in front advertising what they have for sale. One house had about six young girls in old timey dresses and a couple of boys in the yard. Spread on the kitchen table were a variety of homemade baked goods all freshly baked.
Down the road was a variety store that had every kind of wooden handle you can imagine and old wheels for wagons and such. Inside were all kinds of canned goods and other food items as well as kitchen wares. Across the road was a sorghum mill.

Outside the mill was a bearded man who fed cane into an old fashioned press powered by two large horses.
Inside, some young ladies were bottling sorghum syrup that has just been cooked down.
Outside the mill, was a huge pile of firewood to heat the vats where the juice from the press is cooked down to form syrup.
