FountainBleu State Park

We started our four-week trip on Sunday. We will meet friends at Pigeon Forge, TN next Sunday and begin a tour of the Smoky Mountains the following Monday. We finished last minute tasks at home and finally left at nearly five o'clock. Luckily we had only a short trip to Fountainbleu State Park near Mandeville, LA. Although we were a little tired we had a good trip only driving through a little light rain. We arrived in the dark at 8:15 with light sprinkles. When we got to our site there was a camper already there. To make a long story short, we were to be in the next site over but they didn't tell us at the ranger station. We quickly set up in the dark. Although the site is a pull through loop, the turn is tight and was hard to get into so I couldn't unhook easily.

The park is beautiful in the daylight. Nearly everyone in the campground was packing up to leave after the Labor Day weekend. We relaxed in the morning and then took a trip to WalMart and Camping World. We also stopped at Target and KMart trying to find a tension rod for our new window treatments that Barb's sister, Sharon, made for us. When we returned the campground was nearly empy.

We have been on the look out for wildlife. Our friends, Larry and Gloria were here earlier this summer and had a large cat cross the road in front of them. The rangers told them that they were lucky to see it. They have only seen juveniles and large cat tracks.
The park is located along the north edge of Lake Pontchartrain. Majestic Live Oak trees are everywhere in the park with huge branches covered in Spanish Moss. The massive oak at right is a fine example. We will take some more pictures in the morning before we head out.

Glad your up to traveling again,
Roger. Have fun, great time when the parks are more on the empty than full side.
Hugs, Chuck & Kathy
